API 4.3: Vedic dashas, divisional charts and matching, plus Zi Wei and geodetic charts

Open Ephemeris API 4.3 adds Vimshottari dashas, divisional charts and Ashtakoota matching to the Vedic routes, plus Zi Wei Dou Shu, geodetic and mundane charts, and corrects several numbers.

API 4.3.0 shipped on 23 October 2026 and 4.3.1 followed on 24 October. The biggest change is in the Vedic routes: dashas, divisional charts and Ashtakoota matching. There are also three traditions we did not cover before, and corrections to some numbers.

Vedic: dashas, divisional charts and matching

4.3.0 adds dashas and divisional charts to the existing /vedic/chart route, and a new matching route.

Vimshottari dashas. Ask /vedic/chart for dasha and the response carries the periods to depth 3, plus the periods running at as_of_utc. year_basis chooses the year length, and the response echoes it along with the ayanamsa, so the dates are reproducible.

Divisional charts. Send vargas and you get the lagna and every planet in D1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 10, 12, 16, 20, 24, 27, 30, 40, 45 and 60. We implement the Parashara reading only.

POST /vedic/chart
{
  "datetime_utc": "1990-05-14T08:30:00Z",
  "latitude": 28.61,
  "longitude": 77.21,
  "ayanamsa": "lahiri",
  "vargas": [9, 10]
}

Node and roster options. node_type (mean by default, or true) decides which lunar node Ketu follows. roster: classical returns only the nine Jyotish grahas. The default roster gains a Ketu row, and every planet row now carries its nakshatra deity, which was always empty before.

Ashtakoota matching. POST /vedic/matching returns the 36-point Guna Milan match of two charts. Nadi, Bhakoot and Gana doshas and the Manglik placement come back as facts, with the classical cancellation conditions listed. We do not apply a cancellation to the score and we do not give a verdict. The route reports what the charts contain and leaves the judgement to you.

Three traditions that are new here

Zi Wei Dou Shu. POST /chinese/ziwei returns a natal chart for years 1551 to 2648. Birth hour and gender are required and never defaulted. The leap-month rule, the day and year boundary, and the four-transformation choices can be overridden, and the response echoes what it applied in conventions.

Geodetic charts. POST /ephemeris/geodetic takes a place and returns its geodetic Midheaven (east longitude is its zodiac degree), Ascendant, 12 cusps and sign zone. Add date_time and it also returns planets in those houses and contacts to the four angles. With zodiac_type: sidereal it shows the tropical geodetic chart in the sidereal zodiac and says so in the response.

Mundane charts. POST /mundane/chart casts a chart at the exact Sun sign ingress, or at the next New or Full Moon, for a place you choose. Validity and lord-of-the-year candidates are labelled facts for the four cardinal ingresses only.

Also in 4.3.0

  • POST /ephemeris/time-sensitivity lists every sign and house boundary inside a birth-time window and marks each fact stable, fragile or unstable. It shows how much an uncertain birth time matters. It does not rectify a chart.
  • POST /human-design/connection-matrix takes 3 to 12 subjects and returns the four connection types for every pair, N x N matrices, per-person summaries and group set operations. It reports mechanics only and does not name groups.
  • /ephemeris/midpoints accepts an opt-in uranian block: dial sort, focal tree and planetary pictures on a 360, 90, 45 or 22.5 degree dial, with the eight Hamburg points and the Aries Point.
  • GET /time/solar-event and GET /ephemeris/agro/daily take an optional timezone (an IANA name such as Asia/Tokyo) and say in day_basis which day they used.
  • configuration.coordinate_system is now honoured on natal, planet-position, transit-chart and batch routes. A combination a route cannot answer is a 422 that lists the valid choices.

In the MCP server

@openephemeris/mcp-server 4.25.0 adds six tools for the new routes: ephemeris_time_sensitivity, mundane_chart, geodetic_chart, ziwei_chart, vedic_matching and hd_connection_matrix. None is on the default tool list. Each sits in its tradition's toolset, which you select with ?profile= or OPENEPHEMERIS_TOOLS. vedic_chart gains dasha_depth, dasha_as_of, vargas, node_type and roster, and ephemeris_progressed_chart accepts method: "minor" and converse. The ayanamsha correction is a server-side fix, so it is live for every client version.

Some numbers changed

Several values were corrected, so if your code reads them, check the changelog, where each one is marked CHANGED NUMBER. They cover sidereal longitudes and Vedic houses, sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset, and a few progression details. Requests that use none of the new fields are otherwise answered as before.

{/* TODO(owner): slot for the items you are releasing around 2026-10-30. Left empty on purpose: this draft says nothing about them. Add a short section here and a line in the intro, or delete this comment. */}

Positions come from the NASA JPL DE440 kernel, which covers 1550 to 2650 CE.
