KP Sub-Lords and Tajika Varshaphal, With Every Rule Named
A KP chart with sign, star, sub and sub-sub lords, significators and ruling planets, KP horary by number, and the Tajika annual chart with Mudda dasha. Each school difference is a setting, and the answer says which rule it used.
This post is for people who read KP and Tajika charts for a living, and for the developers who build their tools. It covers what the new routes return, what we checked them against, and where we made a choice between schools.
The KP chart
POST /vedic/kp returns the whole KP table in one answer:
- the 12 sidereal Placidus cusps and the nine grahas, each with sign lord, star lord, sub lord, sub-sub lord and KP number (1-249);
- significators both ways: for each house the four levels (A to D), and for each planet levels 1 to 4;
- Rahu and Ketu as agents: which planets each node acts for (conjoined, aspecting, star lord, sign lord);
- the five ruling planets at the same moment, with the lagna and Moon sub lords.
KP old (Krishnamurti's ayanamsa) is the default. KP new (the 291 CE zero point) is a setting.
What we checked it against:
- Every one of the 249 sub-divisions matches a published KP sub-lord table to the second. (The table we used has four misprints; we documented them.)
- A published KP worked chart (AstroSage's): every sign, star and sub lord of the 9 planets and 12 cusps, and every house placement and ownership, is the same.
- KP cusps agree with Swiss Ephemeris to 0.1 arcsecond, in KP old and KP new.
The planet positions come from the NASA JPL DE440 ephemeris.
KP horary by number
Send horary_number from 1 to 249. The ascendant becomes the start of that number's sub, and the other cusps are Placidus for the sidereal time that raises it, as in Krishnamurti's KP Reader VI. The planets, significators and ruling planets are those of the moment you ask, with the ruling planets on the real lagna.
Checked against Reader VI's own worked numbers, 237 and 48: the ascendant is exact. Every cusp is within 2 arcseconds of Swiss Ephemeris.
Tajika Varshaphal
POST /vedic/varshaphal casts the annual chart for one year:
- Varsha Pravesh, the moment the Sun returns to its natal sidereal longitude (within 5 seconds of Swiss Ephemeris), at the birthplace or where the person lives that year;
- Muntha, the five office-bearers and the year lord, with each candidate's aspect on the lagna and Pancha-vargiya bala;
- Tajika aspects between the seven planets, with Ithasala and Isharaf;
- the fifty sahams;
- the Mudda dasha for the year, with antardashas.
The rules follow the Tajika Neelakanthi as given in Balabhadra's Hayanaratna. The year lord and Pancha-vargiya strengths match B.V. Raman's worked Varshaphal (his 1935 Standard Horoscope). The Mudda dasha reproduces P.V.R. Narasimha Rao's Example 122 and the Hayanaratna's worked year.
Where the schools differ, you choose
Classical authors do not agree on everything, and a tool that hides its choice is hard to trust. So each disagreement is a setting with a stated default, and the answer names the rule it used. Some examples:
- the order of node agency, from KP Reader III or Reader VI;
- Tajika aspect points, orbs and the year-lord fallback;
- Mudda sub-periods by Vimshottari or Hayanaratna's muddagrantha;
- Chara dasha by K.N. Rao (the default), by P.V.R. Narasimha Rao, or Sanjay Rath's Narayana dasha;
- the Ekadhipatya reduction by PVR or Santhanam.
Also on the Vedic chart
POST /vedic/chart now returns, on request, Shadbala (all six balas and every part), Ashtakavarga (with the reduced rows and pindas), Bhava Bala, and Yogini and Chara dashas. Two checks we can state: Shadbala reproduces B.V. Raman's worked example in Graha and Bhava Balas sub-bala by sub-bala, and Ashtakavarga matches three published charts cell for cell.
Every named item carries an id, IAST and Devanagari, and every date is local time at the birthplace.
Try it on a chart you know
The fastest way to judge this is to run a chart you have already worked by hand. If a value differs from your table, tell us which rule you follow. That is how the next setting gets added.

The response gives every cusp and planet with its sign, star and sub lord, the house and planet significators, and the ruling planets.
In an AI assistant: ask Claude with Open Ephemeris connected ("cast my KP chart and list the sub lord of every cusp"). It finds the KP calculation and runs it. ChatGPT gets KP and Varshaphal in a later update. {/* Wave 2: rewrite this line when Track B (#1249) is live in ChatGPT. */}
