Zodiacal Releasing and Profections, in the Chat

Time-lord techniques answer a question a transit list can't: which part of the chart is in charge of this chapter of a life. The Hellenistic astrologers had several. Three of the most used today are zodiacal releasing, annual profections and firdaria. They are easy to define and tedious to lay out by hand, so we put them in the chat.

What you get

In Claude, ask "show my time lords" or "show my zodiacal releasing" with a birth date, time and place. A widget opens in the conversation:

• Now: the current level 1 and level 2 periods of zodiacal releasing, the profection year and its lord, and the firdaria period and sub-period.
• Zodiacal releasing from the Lot of Spirit or the Lot of Fortune, with a switch between them. Level 1 runs across the whole life; pick a period and its level 2 periods open inside it. Peak periods are starred and Loosing of the Bond is marked.
• The profection wheel and the years around this one.
• The changes to come, listed by date.

Dates show in the birth time zone, so an evening birth in New York doesn't read as the next day.

In ChatGPT, ask the same question and Open Ephemeris answers in text: your zodiacal releasing periods and your profection year with its lord.

A worked example

A chart born 12 April 1990 at 08:30 in London (07:30 UTC). We called the live API on 31 October 2026 and asked for the state on 1 November 2026. The natal call gives a day chart, the Ascendant in Gemini, the Lot of Fortune in Capricorn and the Lot of Spirit in Scorpio.

Zodiacal releasing from Spirit. Level 1 began in Scorpio at birth, moved to Sagittarius in January 2005 and to Capricorn on 21 November 2016. Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, runs to 3 July 2043. Inside it, level 2 is Cancer (the Moon) from 2 February 2026 to 22 February 2028, then Leo (the Sun) to 14 September 2029. The longest angular level 1 period, the one the API reports as the peak, is Aquarius, from July 2043.

Zodiacal releasing from Fortune. Level 1 is Aquarius (Saturn) from 21 November 2016 to 17 June 2046. Level 2 is Leo (the Sun) from 4 December 2025 to 27 June 2027, then Virgo.

Profections. At age 36 the year profects to Gemini, the 1st place. Mercury is lord of the year from the birthday on 12 April 2026 to 12 April 2027. The next year goes to Cancer and the Moon.

Firdaria. A day birth runs Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon. The Moon period began on 12 April 2021 and lasts to 12 April 2030. Its Sun sub-period runs from 3 June 2026 to 16 September 2027.

So this person is in a Saturn chapter on both Lots, with the Sun turning up at level 2 from Fortune and in the firdaria at the same time, inside a Mercury year that falls on the Ascendant. Reading that is the astrologer's job. The tool lays it out so the reading can start.

The conventions we use

Practitioners differ on details, so here is what the calculation does:

• Years. Each sign releases for its ruler's minor years (Capricorn 27, Aquarius 30). A level 1 year is 360 days and a level 2 month is 30 days. With that unit, Princess Diana's chart (Fortune in Leo) reaches its Loosing of the Bond in late July 1997, the date Chris Brennan gives; a calendar-year count lands elsewhere.
• Same sign. When Spirit and Fortune fall in the same sign, releasing from Spirit begins one sign later (Valens IV, 4:7), and the response says so.
• Angular periods. A period counts as angular when its sign is 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th from the Lot being released. The peak is the longest angular level 1 period.
• Firdaria follow the day order (from the Sun) and the night order (from the Moon). The North Node (3 years) and South Node (2 years) come after Mars in both, and have no sub-periods.

For developers

The widget calls four routes you can call yourself: a natal chart with include_hermetic_lots and sect_determination, then POST /predictive/time-lords/zodiacal-releasing (once per Lot), /predictive/time-lords/profections and /predictive/time-lords/firdaria. A fifth route, /predictive/time-lords/distributions, directs through the bounds. The API docs have every field.
